Sorry. A pathetic try at humor. I'm just trying to keep my sense of humor while I pump 12" of water out of my basement. And I don't even live near a flood plain.

Regardless, it's a beautiful stone. As I watch your series unfold, I see some stones are quite skillfully and artistically carved, while others are not. They all make me want to get some carving tools and give it a try. Looks like a very difficult, unforgiving material to work. Where do you suppose the graveyard is for failed 18th century headstones?

That notch on the upper right margin is odd. It looks more like a piece deliberately cut out than just ordinary decay.

(Possibly my 6th-great uncle, but I'm not sure.)
