Depated: Not Only in New England

Here's a "depated" stone from Elizabeth, New Jersey:

I don't know from New Jersey, but Elizabeth is next to Newark, yes? And Newark was the principal Puritan settlement (New Ark of the Covenant.) Perhaps this is just another outpost of the proverbial Norfolk Whine.
